A SOLUTION TO A CHALLENGE

On the Verge

OTV was born from developing a solution to a challenge. The challenge was managing the overall communication with our clients and customers. How do we keep our collective client-base informed of all our activities, events, and products without inundating them with emails? The first iteration was consolidating the information into a single e-letter (digital newsletter). The e-letter was okay but the format did not suffice as we wanted to provide our readers valuable content in addition to information about our events and products. The thought was that the additional content would encourage our clients and customers to read the magazine. Then the idea came to use the OTV as a means to promote entrepreneurs in Sketched on Napkin's Entrepreneurship Development Program (SON-EDP). An individual with experience in the digital magazine space read an issue of OTV. She shared several reasons why we should create a digital version of OTV in addition to the current PDF version at the time. In the beginning of 2019, we released our first digital version! We then began to promote individuals who were pursuing their passion in different areas and placing them on the cover. This was a strategic move that improved our distribution and recognition. By promoting others, OTV reached audiences that it would not have reached otherwise.

This has been an on-going learning process. We are not magazine professionals nor are we in the magazine business. We were simply solving a problem. In the process we validated a concept taught in SON-EDP which is "no idea is ever born perfect". Ideas constantly evolve with each iteration.

The beauty of OTV is that we solved a problem that benefits others at a minimal cost.
